Photograph of tank crewmembers refueling an M1A1 Abrams tank.I served as an Armor officer in the United States Army for about five years. For most of that time, I was stationed in Germany, where I served with the Second Battlion, Sixty-Third Armor Regiment stationed at Rose Barracks near the town of Vilseck in northern Bavaria. I served for a year as a tank platoon leader in 2-63 Armor, both in Germany and in Iraq. While serving in that role in Germany, the M1 Abrams tank platoon I led conducted a gunnery rotation on ranges at the nearby (very nearby, right out the back gate of Rose Barracks) Grafenwoehr training area. Here's a picture of two crewmembers from the tank on which I served as tank commander refueling the tank at the end of a day of training. Tanks, especially M1 tanks, are thirsty beasts and our fuel trucks were never far away.2-63 Armor was part of the third brigade of the First Infantry Division, the famous Big Red One.I hope you like this picture of an M1 tank being refueled.
