The Pearl Reference Pure Matte Black is a 4-piece drum kit; 22x18" Bass, 10x8" & 12x9" Tom Tom, 16x16" Floor Tom, with a Matte Black finish. The Reference Pure sets from pearl give the term ´High-End´ a whole new sound. The three woods; maple, birch and mahogany (each layer 0.9mm) are combined to create the relative sound characteristics and drum size. Small drums have a more Birch and less Maple. As the drum increases in size so does the relative amount of Maple and the amount of Birch used decreases. Beyond a diameter of 13" the amount of Maple is decreased and ´replaced´ by Mahogany, the bigger the diameter the more mahogany. The result is drums which have a ground sound which are already perfectly in-tune with each other.
